Unveiling the all-season charm of Chamonix: a journey into the year-round delights discovered by our Homeowners.
Few phrases ring truer than “there’s something for everyone” when contemplating the wonders of Chamonix. While the majestic alpine setting boasts world-class skiing and snowboarding during the winter season, the bustling town and surrounding areas have a wealth of offerings year-round. Whether you’re looking for relaxation or risk, Chamonix has an adventure for you.
For the nature lover…
If you have had the luxury of skiing in Chamonix, you will have experienced a glimpse of the snow-covered mountainous beauty. However, as the warmer months reveal the serenity beneath the thaw, they also bring plentiful opportunities to discover nature. Start by taking the charming cogwheel train to Montenvers station to explore the wonders of the Mer de Glace. From here, the gondola takes you to the top of the 580-step descent to the Ice Cave. This eye-opening journey reveals the dramatic effects of climate change in our lifetime.
For the easy-going…
While Chamonix may not initially spring to mind as the quintessential August home for a laid-back holiday, there is no shortage of leisure activities to escape a busy life. Located at the foot of the glacial valley, Golf de Chamonix homes a picturesque eighteen-hole course, enveloped by the prestigious peaks of Mont Blanc. For those who prefer to forego golf, the backdrops of QC Termechamonix and the natural relaxation of Les Thermes, Saint-Gervais rival those of the most renowned spas. Treat yourself to a massage or follow the Wellness Path through numerous sensory rooms for ultimate relaxation.
On a sunny day, take a trip to Lac de Passy to cool off in the blue waters that reflect the alpine backdrop. Renting paddle boards are an easy way to cover the expanse of this impressive lake. Finish the day with a lakeside BBQ and watch as the mountain tops turn orange as the sun goes down.
For the thrill seeker…
Chamonix has a host of activities that challenge even the most daring of characters. Begin the morning by strapping in with one of Chamonix’s paragliding experts and follow the journey of the sun over the mountain tops. And if hearing the pace of the water that rushes through the heart of town isn’t enough, submerge yourself in the icy waters while hydrospeeding, kayaking or canyoning.
For the fitness fanatic…
At the end of June, Chamonix welcomed hundreds of yoga enthusiasts to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Chamonix Yoga Festival. This enchanting festival combines the tranquillity of the French Alps with the mindful practice of self-discovery. Alternatively, push your fitness levels to the extreme by partaking in the Mont-Blanc Marathon. And if this isn’t enough go further and join the 90 km race along a 6000 metre vertical drop that is recognised as one of the most technical trail races in France. Finally, for the cyclists among the Homeowners, the Black Runs you may have skied down are waiting to be cycled back up. For a well-deserved reward, stop off for a coffee at Brasserie les Marmottons and give your legs a rest in one of their hammocks.
For the festival-goer…
The music festivals in and around Chamonix attract thousands each year. Cosmojazz Festival is a highlight of the calendar year and never fails to get creative in their display of musicians. Be prepared to look up and see a piano suspended from a crane over the town square or take a ride in a ski lift with a cellist.
Montreux Jazz Festival, while a drive away, is a must-experience festival if residing in Chamonix in July. This year the likes of Lionel Richie and Sam Smith took to the stages dotted around Lake Geneva. Start the morning off right with a swim, before grabbing some food from one of the 23 enticing food trucks and settling in for a showcase of musical talent.
The national celebration of music, Fete de la Musique, is yet another festival that the residents of Chamonix wholeheartedly embrace. On this occasion, music floods from every bar and hotel and the rhythm resonates around every corner you will turn. For the best street to celebrate on, head to Rue des Moulins.
