Glistening waters and sandy coves are not all that give the largest of the Balearic islands its grand appeal. August has recently added the final flourishes to the latest Signature Collection addition in the northeast of Mallorca, and it is a divine slice of luxury waiting to be explored.

The Location

Nestled in a valley, the municipality of Artà has a rich history and artists have long gravitated to its alluring setting. Winding streets carry the liveliness of the municipality well. From exploring the local market on Calle Ciuta and Placa del Conqueridor on a sun-drenched Tuesday to sampling Es Taronger’s Cochinillo mallorquin con manzana al horno in cooler seasons, Artà makes a sublime year-round destination. Interior enthusiasts in particular will want to pay a visit to the Babam concept store that is a mere five minute walk away. Here you will find woven treasures and more besides. Despite the close proximity of the bustling main street, you will still feel the exclusiveness of your own sanctuary. With Pepnot Galeria on your doorstep and Capadpera golf course (among four others) just a 12-minute drive from your home, art collectors, adventure seekers, and those seeking respite by the sea will be just a short journey from many of August’s favourite destinations in northeast Mallorca.‍

The Home

Built in 1915 and renovated by the previous owners in 2001, the August team wholeheartedly took cues from traditional Spanish townhouses to guide the design story of this already unique property. Now, it has been revitalised into a poetic space that echoes the artisanal landscape. A stone facade greets you at the entrance, as an introduction to the refreshed interiors. With floors in Mallorquina stone and polished concrete throughout, there is a seamless transition from the lofty indoors to the garden that features the 6x3 m2 turquoise pool - one of this property’s many highlights. ‘For our Signature property it's almost Premium size so the size makes it really unique,’ Senior Designer Karolina Wierzbicka shares.

The home’s layout also sets it apart. ‘It used to be two homes, joined into one.’ Laid over three floors, this eight-room delight - with a guest house for good measure - takes you on a journey. With unobstructed views that stretch beyond terracotta rooftops and Artà’s distinctive heritage architecture, it offers a true feast for the senses, inside and out. As you travel across the convivial areas and sleeping spaces, you are met with tactile surfaces and unique features that are accented with layers of modernity. ‘The views change as you go through the house and that is quite special,’ continues Karolina. There is something new to experience around every corner of this modern renovation.

Living

‍

Cocooning vibrancy is the spirit of the living areas in our home that is primed for relaxing and entertaining; be that in the main lounge area or on the 2nd floor terrace. An inviting wood burning fireplace in the ground floor TV room anchors the minimal design scheme and art takes centre stage throughout the rest of the home, with warm and tonal framed works to accentuate the neutral colour scheme. With locally sourced and woven pieces that are typical of the neighbourhood, the curated choice of decor and soft furnishings bring cohesion and Mallorcan flair.

Socialising Outdoors

Step onto the patio through sliding doors from the open plan kitchen diner to plunge into outdoor living at its finest. The home is south-east facing in orientation and sun drenched for most daylight hours. A 10-seater dining table in eucalyptus wood makes this an idyllic setting for long summer days spent dining al fresco - post a dip in the plunge pool and perhaps pre reclining on a decadent sunlounger. Toasted hues, sleek outdoor glass lanterns, and chic pool umbrellas with valances frame the poolside. With swift access to a pool room and annex, you can simply envelop yourself in the seductive heat and Mallorcan landscape. With all the amenities you could need to entertain the entire family or a party of 10, there will be little need to step back inside. ‘I do think the garden is amazing too, it is probably one of my favourites in a way,’ continues Karolina.

‍The Kitchen

Conviviality is at the heart of the kitchen design. With a new kitchen island to accommodate culinary enthusiasts and a large dining table for guests, it is a prime spot to gather round. Preserving the kitchen units, the August team employed a lick of paint instead. Tiling adds definition and refreshed countertops bring instant zest whilst preserving its natural form.

Sleeping

‍

Four sumptuous sleeping spaces make room to dream and recharge. Setting our Artà townhouse apart from other properties is that almost all of the bedrooms have an outside view or a terrace. Bedroom one is alive with art, texture, and added seating for a seamless finish. Fresh neutrals complement a sea of earthy tones, while carved wooden lamp bases and rattan add definition. Gilded accents and mixed materials elevate the neutral palette of bedroom two, accessible from the spacious study that features a locally-sourced antique desk. With its own balcony and extensive natural light, it is playful and vibrant. Bedroom three leads onto its own terrace, while the master suite on the second floor exudes pure luxury; hosting a lounge area, double vanity, and sauna spa. Complete with the upper terrace where you can happily while away the hours, this space is ripe for many sundowner moments.
