The Cotswolds are loved by A-listers, hikers and hounds. So we chose to set our latest Premium Collection home here. Here’s how we turned a barn into a beauty
It sounds like a character from a Dickens novel yet it’s a Cotswold charmer of a village – Wyck Rissington. The Saxon name belongs to a truly special (and seriously old) village in the Windrush Valley.
Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ll know the Cotswolds as a highly desirable destination, with many A-listers choosing it for their country retreats. It’s officially an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty , stretching over five counties, and Wyck Rissington is one of its profoundly pretty villages with its own open green (complete with a Victorian drinking fountain), surrounded by enchanting period cottages.
Its location, between Bourton-On-the-Water, where the two banks of the River Windrush are linked by 18th-century bridges, and south of the town Stow-on-the-Wold, offers the best of the Cotswolds. From country pubs for a slap-up Sunday roast to antique stores, cheese shops and tea rooms. The Cotswolds' year is packed with events ranging from Cheltenham’s Literature Festival to a day out at the races at Cheltenham Gold Cup Week. Music festivals include Wilderness Festival and the Big Feastival. This is the quintessential English countryside beloved by most of the world and, most certainly, any dogs lucky enough to get to live here.
The Home
As an August homeowner, you can own a farmhouse or a country pile. Our homes in the Cotswolds include our latest Premium Collection barn-style home in Wyck Rissington. It can host 10 guests and is an ideal space for a break from urban life. Here are some scenes from the story of how we renovated the house into a retreat.
Welcome to over 300 square metres of space with generous living spaces and surrounding gardens.
We preserve the best, including exposed beams and stone fireplaces, and restore the rest. Space was a focus in the renovation as this is a home made for entertaining as well as laidback time
This brand-new kitchen is fully equipped for your stay, from wine rack to cookbooks with a local theme. Design choices in the kitchen include the classic Belfast sink and butcher’s block
Every corner of the barn-style home has a function, from places to work to heaps of space in which to unwind. Premium homes are perfect for hosting parties of guests so space - and how we fill it - counts
The family bathroom has traditional country-house details, including a freestanding tub and monochrome tiling.
Five bedrooms here, including a downstairs double and a zip & link room, mean ten guests can sleep over - and plenty more can come to have fun. Design details have a homely feel, from cosy throws to rich reds adding warmth.
The Renovation and Inspiration
Before its August story, this barn-style home didn’t maximise all that space. We transformed the upstairs layout. We added an en suite to the principal bedroom and office space. The home works for weekends and long stays
With all that beauty outside, we wanted the inside aesthetic to align. Ticking is traditional in England, so we upholstered furniture with it; fabrics include Sanderson Oaknut fabric. A leaf trail of oaks and acorns is embroidered onto a pinstripe jacquard with a beautifully chunky cotton thread.
Rich fabrics add to the cosy country feel. Curtains here are in Nympheus by GP&J Baker.
This escape is a treat for all your senses, a treasure for future generations and a place to remember for all your guests. Your dogs will love it too.
