So whilst travel this year to our favourite Winter destination may be on pause, it hasn't stopped us from dreaming about the views, the atmosphere, the food and of course the snow and winter activities! Did you know that when most people think of Chamonix, The Alps and skiing are always top of mind? Even the first-ever Winter Olympics games in 1924 were hosted in Chamonix. This is why it's the perfect location for our August home. Right in the centre of the village where you can easily access all 5 world-class ski resorts in the Chamonix Valley. Perfect for when we're ready to travel again!
The ‘la maison des guides’ (the guides house) in the main street of Chamonix can help provide you with all the information you need for all sorts of Winter activities including some of our favourite:
Skiing
With so much to offer, the Chamonix Valley is considered to be the best freeride resort in the world. It has 5 world-class ski resorts (Grands Montets, Les Houches, Le Tour/Balme, La Flegere and Le Brevent) it’s no wonder the first-ever Winter Olympics Games were hosted here.
Cross country skiing
A sure-fire way to get your heart going without the adrenaline of downhill. Cross country skiing also known as Nordic skiing is a great alternative to skiing downhill, it combines movement, balance, and breathing. Ideal for all experience levels and the perfect way to enjoy the snow.
La Vallee Blanche - Off Piste Skiing
The famous Vallée Blanche in Chamonix is a 20km long, vertical descending, 2700m off-piste ski route. The views are absolutely jaw-dropping and a must-do ski route you'll never forget but beware this is not for the faint-hearted or beginners.
Fat biking
Who said biking is only enjoyed in Summer? “Fat Biking” is an alternative Winter sport that is a lot of fun. The tires are much wider and oversized with larger rims, they are designed for low ground pressure to allow riding on soft, unstable terrain, such as snow. So you can enjoy the Chamonix Valley trails whether its snow or sun with Legends Bike hire in town.
